For the love of The Fall

fall

For the love of The Fall. This is the most unoriginal title ever. What better time to make a new post than during my favorite season. As seasons transition, I believe it mirrors my life and is the perfect title for a post after a 10 month hiatus. And so, ode to Fall.

fall

dress

Long sleeve dresses are such a rarity that when I do come across one, I can’t seem to pass it by. This dress is slightly longer in the back than the front. There is so much fabric to this dress that it gives it an effortless flowy fall. It fits true to size. I styled it with a belt but it was not needed. One slight issue that you can notice in the previous picture is that the back is only closed by buttons and I had to wear a tank top under. The dress is not sheer but it is partially lined to maintain the flowy, super bohemian shape.

* I know I have been MIA forever but I was on the Pix11 news a few months back and it was definitely one of the highlights of my year. You can see the clip that aired on TV along with the article by clicking here.

For the love of Houndstooth

houndstooth

houndstooth

If you are unaware, houndstooth is described as a checked pattern with broken/notched corners. Classic houndstooth is black and white but there are also different variations like brown paired with cream and blue paired with white. Houndstooth can be considered a standard print alongside with: leopard, zebra, chevron, stripes etc. I actually didn’t own anything with a houndstooth print until Embellished Wraps sent me this beautiful hijab/wrap/headscarf.

more houndstooth

more houndstooth

When I opened the package from Embellished Wraps, I slightly gasped because the colors, textures and material are top of the line. It’s so lush and lux. The simple blush pink color paired with the houndstooth and rosettes at the end is stunningly coordinated. It’s quite gorgeous and this hijab is such an easy way to add extra flair to an otherwise ordinary outfit. I was so excited to put together this post but had to delay it because of my demanding work schedule due to the fact that I just went away on a mini vacation last week. You can read all about my fun family trip to Vegas here and that was my first time I wore my hijab turban style.

For the love of Fashion Fighting Famine

just arrived at the show

just arrived at the show

This past weekend I attended the Fashion Fighting Famine fashion show in California. It was a completely last minute trip as I booked my trip a few days before I flew out. Fashion Fighting Famine is one of the primary fashion shows that brings Muslim designers from across the world. This years fashion show had designers from Australia, London, Dubai, Pakistan, Paris and America. About 1000 people attended and a portion of the proceeds went to charity. The charity was New Star Family Center which is based in California.

The fashion show was Sunday evening and it was held at the Hyatt hotel in Irvine California. There was such a buzz of excitement leading up to the fashion show which flowed perfectly. I have never been to a fashion show before but this is exactly how I would have imagined it to be. There was the red carpet, backdrops, detailing, photographers, videographers the bazaar with all the designers and decor etc.  I wish I had more pics from the runway show itself, but only cell phone pics were allowed and because of all the lights and the models’ fast paced walking, the pics unfortunately did not come out recognizable. If you go to the website: fashionfightingfamine.com, you can see some pics from the runway show. Everyone was dressed to impress. The guests as well as the bloggers, designers etc were decked out head to toe in fashion fabulousness. The bazaar was open before, during and after the show. Prior to the fashion show I went in to the bazaar and I met all of the designers.

The runway show showcased 9 designers: Abaya Addict, INAYAH, Hijab House, Madamme BK, Mohajababes, Needlez, Nisaa Boutique, RAYAN, SixteenR. These designers had clothing, hijabs, accessories and even swimwear. I loved the swimwear collection because the material was perfect and light for the water and there was so much variety. You could mix and match the pieces in case you wanted to wear tights or pants or show the neck or not etc. Perfectly fit for everyones’ personal style and taste. U.S. brand Zeena was also featured in the presentation. At the bazaar, I purchased 2 hijabs from Zeena and my sister did as well. I loved their prints on their hijabs and the different varieties they had. The bazaar included more designers besides for the 9 from the runway including Hijab-ista. (I have previously purchased hijabs and accessories from Hijabista and I was pleased with the prompt service and products)

with the musically talented Yuna Zarai

with the musically talented Yuna Zarai

During the runway show, the first designer was Nisaa boutique. This set the pedestal very high for the remaining designers and they did not disappoint. Nisaa boutique had gorgeous kaftans and it ended with a bridal kaftan. At the mid point of the fashion show, there was a live musical performance by Yuna Zarai. Her style can be described as alternative, pop and acoustic. She plays the guitar and ukulele and her voice is gentle and soft. She performed a handful of songs and her voice sounds just as wonderful live if not better! She is world known and has such talent. Check out her website here.

Included are pics from the fashion show of some of the amazing ladies I met and got to spend time with during my fun filled weekend.

She actually helped me with my eye makeup on Sunday for the fashion show. Such a helpful and sweet girl. Her tutorials are easy to follow and I love how her feisty personality shines right through her videos as well! She brought her daughter with her on her Cali trip and I respect and can relate to her so much. Great inspiration for fellow moms like yours truly. For the love of Birthday Cake

Birthday Cake

Birthday Cake

This blog post is going to be short and sweet. I have been so busy the last few weeks due to my Umrah trip and my mini girls getaway that I didn’t have enough time to come up with this post in proper chronological order. (You can read about both of my trips here: For the love of Umrah, and For the love of a Jersey Getaway). These pics are from a small birthday party my husband and I hosted for my closest family and friends for my birthday. (Read about For the love of Turning 30 here). My youngest sister @sepiacrayons took these amazing pics and I simply had to put them up. Also, I could not deprive you guys of all the fabulousness that was displayed at my party. The party was held at Mint Restaurant and Lounge in Long Island. The food was Indo-Asian cuisine and was splendid. Through mingling and socializing, I later realized no pictures of the food were taken, but the food was cooked to perfection. Spicy but still flavorful. These are my fashion forward friends who arrived in their modest fashionable attire. The delicious birthday cake was a complete surprise and my husband ordered it from: http://cmnycakes.com/

For the love of Spikes

sans spikes edgy

sana spikes edgy

My obsession with spikes started a few seasons ago when Burberry introduced their trench coats with spike detailing. I was in love. Spikes have become more mainstream now and it can be worn both edgy and high fashion as well. When implementing spikes, its important to keep only one item with spikes. But you can add as much spiked jewelry as you prefer. You don’t want to overdo the spike look because that can come off as tacky. Jeffrey Campbell has affordable edgy shoes with spikes. Aldo, Steve Madden and Zara all have incorporated spikes in their shoes as well. If you want high fashion, nothing beats Christian Louboutins Spikes shoes. They come in many varieties from metal to metallic to colored spikes. Valentino has gorgeous spiked bags and shoes from their rockstud collection.Zara has spike detailing in their clothes as well. I bought this top from Zara and it has such a perfect modest fit. It comes in 2 styles and of course I bought them both. It’s slightly longer in length and has a loose fit. The sleeves can also be worn rolled up and buttoned in place. It’s casual and edgy. Perfectly worn with heels or flats. Asos, H&M and Forever 21 all sell clothes with spike detailing. If you are following me on Instagram@sanahrashid you probably noticed my spiky nails that I was sporting last week. So edgy and so much fun! In the fashion of loving all things spikes, it only makes sense for me to have spiky nails as well! Below is how I incorporated spikes with a top and a pair of shoes and came up with 2 different looks- one more casual/edgy and one more dressy. I have worn the Jeffrey Campbell spiketini shoes in a previous post, you can view my outfit of the day here. Also, I have worn spiked jewelry in one of my previous posts as well, which you can see here.

Outfit of the day (OOTD) pics from the Blog Launch Photo Shoot

These are OOTD (outfit of the day) pics from the header photo shoot day. My corduroy blazer is from Zara and it’s actually a few years old. I never wore it before and I cut off the tags right before I took these pics! I don’t believe it fit me at one point (probably some time in between pregnancies) and that’s probably when I forgot all about it. You can read all about my love for blazers here. The jeans are from a fairly new store which I absolutely love- Cwonder. The owner is Tory Burch’s ex-husband. I refer to Cwonder as the more affordable version of Tory Burch. The jeans were 75% off, only $20! I like Cwonder jeans because they are mid rise and not low rise jeans. My scarf was purchased at Century 21, for only $20 as well. It’s made of 100% silk from Anne Klein.

For the love of Blazers.

I have very recently started incorporating blazers into my everyday wardrobe and I love them. They are my current go to look and they go with every look. They can be paired with jeans, trousers, long tops, blouses and dresses. Blazers’ versatility and the fact that they come in long and short lengths make them a current wardrobe staple. They can dress up an outfit, or they can tone it down. Zara is still having their sale and their blazers have expert fit and detailing to die for. I recently bought a blazer from Zara with ruching and poof sleeves (proper terminology?) which make your waist look slimmer by giving you a broad shoulder look. I also recently purchased a gorgeous short length blazer from BCBGmaxazria from bloomingdales. It was over 50% off and it’s fuschia pink which is the perfect pop of color for the winter cold, and it can easily be transitioned into the spring and summer months. I like BCBGmaxazria because of their wide range of sizes. They have XXS which most brands don’t have. H&M also has extremely affordable blazers for great prices and their sizes fit XXS to plus. I have attached pics of both of my blazers.
