For the love of Harem Pants

Harem pants are super trendy and modest but it has always been difficult for me to find the perfect pair with an ideal fit. A few weeks ago Mode Clothier sent me a package and lo and behold enclosed was the perfect pair of harem pants. The color was a light gray and the light color allows you to clearly see the beautiful drapes which is what makes harem pants so unique. Harem pants differ in where the drapes are located (some drapes are by the hips and some are by the ankles and some have both) and they also differ in how low the crotch of the pants fall. I never thought I would like a pair with such a low crotch but the drapes are perfection. The crotch in these pants actually fall till past my knees. When I wore these pants for the photo shoot, I pinned up the middle but as I was looking through the pictures I saw that it wasn’t properly depicted in the photoshoot pictures. I attached pictures on the bottom of the post to give you a better idea of the frontal view of the pants worn both ways- as is and with the middle pinned up.

I wore these same pants to an interview with Sweet Modesty earlier today and I did not pin up the middle. The interview should be up next week so you can see how I styled these same pants for a different look. Both times I wore them with heels for a more dressy style but they can easily be worn with ballet flats and a simple cotton top or even super casual with a graphic tee tucked in at the front (you don’t want to cover the tie sash because it would be too bulky if the shirt was not tucked in)

I realize it has been a month since my last post and I was totally missing blogging! I was very preoccupied due to the holiday and my laptop actually died. I attempted to get it fixed but to no avail. It was too expensive and so I decided to purchase another one. I hope you guys had a great holiday! My next post will be fitting for fall and will be titled: For the love of Pumpkin Picking and a very laid back casual outfit will be attached. You may have gotten a preview of it if you have been following me on my instagram account @sanahrashid. Hope you enjoyed this photo shoot. These pictures were taken by: @sameetaahmed. White washed silk button up top: GOSilk purchased on ruelala.com. I love GOSilk because they have very modest fitting tops.

Spiked heels: Vince Camuto ( I can’t seem to get enough of these heels, I wear them all the time and I have 3 pairs of them)

Silk scarf: simplyzeena. I love this scarf because I love animal prints and the added touch is the gorgeous chunky gold link print. It’s so lux. This was purchased at the ISNA convention which you can read about here

For the love of the Trouser Pant

Martha's and I

Martha’s and I

One of my friends came back home for a short trip because her younger sister was getting married. After all the wedding festivities settled down, I caught up with her and a few friends. It was very last minute and we got some Chinese food followed by dessert at Martha’s Country Bakery. Fatimas Halal Kitchen is in Astoria and they have good Chinese food and it’s not expensive at all. It’s a laid back restaurant and we all enjoyed ourselves. I ordered my usual which is General Tsaos chicken and beef fried rice. I attached a picture of dinner.

After dinner we went to Martha’s Country Bakery which was very close by. They close at 11 pm and we got their right before closing. I ordered tres leches and it was good but maybe a tad bit too sweet. One of their more popular dessert is the very berry napoleon but im not a huge fan. It’s good but I just don’t find it amazing. But everyone I know is obsessed with it. Their frozen coffee drinks are my favorite but it was too late to order one because drinking coffee very late keeps me up.  Service was prompt and everyone was accommodating.

Hmm, what should I order?

I wore trouser pants in a bright coral/orange hue. I love these pants because they have a great fit and are very long. Trouser pants tend to be a little looser and are generally worn more dressy because of the wide leg opening. They are great pants to be worn to work and can be worn casually paired with flats and a tee shirt. I love the fit of this pant and I have it in a green shade as well. The length of these trouser pants required me to wear them with heels and I wore them with patent leather wedge sandals. I paired the pants with a silk top and I added a gold belt with Swarovski crystal detailing. I wore a silk rectangle hijab (head scarf) which matched the texture of the shirt and the color of the pants. Not pictured well, but my outfit was complemented with a purple Chanel handbag that has a brushed gold chain.

For the love of Turning 30

Normally my birthday is not a big deal at all. It comes and it goes. But this year, as I am turning 30, I have been doing a lot of reflecting on my life- what I have done and what I still hope to achieve. Some people may shy away from this milestone birthday, but I for one, am embracing 30 because I truly feel blessed and grateful and upon reflection I am deeply humbled.

For a small family dinner, we went for dinner at Le Bernardin in the city. My older sister, Maryam, and I have birthdays one day apart (she is 364 days older than me) so this was a collaboration birthday dinner for the both of us. It was a prix fixe menu which included appetizers and then the 4 course meal, the last course being dessert. The food was spectacular. I included pics from almost all of the entrees. The service was prompt and the waiters were unbelievably polite and responsive. My dinner entree was not as delicious as the previous entrees but I didn’t say anything. The waiter came up to me on his own and insisted on bringing me something else. They sent me a new dish which perfected the whole experience. The food was positively flavorful and filling. Dessert completed the whole meal and was out of this world. So much robust flavor and texture. A sweet ending to the meal accompanied with iced cappuccino.

For the love of Fur vests

For the love of the Fur vest

For the love of Fur vests

If you want to add a little bit of luxe and serious texture to your wardrobe, a fur vest is just the piece to do this. It is versatile because it can be worn both dressy and casual with just a hint of high fashion. Whenever I am wearing one, I feel super trendy and chic. Real fur vests can get pricey but luckily there are plenty of faux fur options that are completely affordable. (I’m not taking a stance on if you should go with real fur or faux fur). Most faux fur looks real from far away but to the touch you may be able to feel a difference. If you are looking to sport an extremely trendy look, it maybe be easier to find it in faux fur as opposed to real fur. The winter cold months are almost over but a fur vest can still be worn in springtime during the evening if you have one in a light color. A solid black fur vest can be worn as well in the evening for a more dressy occasion. Here is my fur vest worn three ways. (This blog post is long so you may have to click on continue reading to view the entire post depending on which webpage you are on)
