For the love of the Bomber Jacket

Experimenting with firsts is always refreshing, and I have been thinking of going out of my comfort zone of  jackets with longer lengths and trench coats for a while. In wanting to take the plunge for a jacket of a shorter length, what better than a bomber jacket? I feel like I never found one I loved because it is too bulky on the top and way too short to match my style. I came across this bomber jacket and liked how it is slightly longer in length than standard bomber jackets. Also, it’s not super bulky which is a major plus. (This jacket is unisex).

I purchased this bomber jacket a few months ago and it is one of my favorite jackets for fall. This olive color is everywhere this season. The patches are sewn in and are so unique and add character to this jacket. I love that it even has zips on each hip to zip open if desired. This jacket is made of lightweight nylon and polyester and it hardly wrinkles. There are also quilted patches of the same material and color on the elbows and right shoulder. This would probably be necessary if you were carrying heavy items on your shoulder as it is a bomber jacket but I would like to say it is extra reinforcement for my handbags!

Aren’t there particular items of clothing that you receive compliments on every single time you wear them? Well, this bomber jacket is definitely one of those for me. This is how I knew this jacket needed to be highlighted in my next post. As winter is approaching, I see myself grabbing this jacket more often as I know when it gets colder I will have to store it away till next year. Dare I say this bomber jacket is too damn cool even for myself? Perhaps. Ha.

Jacket: Profound Aesthetic

Fingerless leather gloves: Profound Aesthetic

Oxford shoes: Cole Haan. This cognac color is perfect for fall. (these are my favorite that I have had for years and they are so scuffed and it doesn’t bother me in the least. Cole Haan has great oxfords and they are super comfy. I just purchased my second pair of oxfords from them)

Jeans: Cwonder

Hijab: Printed georgette scarf. I kept it georgette to match the casual look

Even though it may not seem like it from the pics, I had tons of fun during this shoot with my absolute favorite photographer ever- Saman H who also happens to be my sister. Lucky me!

For the love of the Poncho Sweater

poncho

When you hear poncho, do you think of a rain cover that is sold at sporting events or theme parks during the rain? Or the woolen garment that is typically worn is South America that has a slit to slip your head through? These thoughts initially would come to my mind first but this poncho is so much more wearable than those. A poncho is a very loose top with or without sleeves that has a small opening at the neck. If you twirl in a circle, the top would resemble a flower from above because it’s so loose and flowy.

This particular poncho has sleeves and it is a turtleneck and that’s why this is ideal for fall. In addition it has gold buttons on the arms to add a little detail. I love that you can wear this poncho with jeans, or even front pleated casual pants.  It would look great with harem pants as well. A poncho is usually worn casual/ casual chic. I wore mine with heels because the heels worked well with the outfit. The one downside is that it’s very hard to wear a jacket with this because of the dolman like sleeves. A poncho can be worn with another poncho jacket, a very loose jacket with dolman sleeves or a capelike jacket.

I realize you have probably never seen a poncho worn with another shirt underneath but this poncho was simply too short for me to wear separately and be comfortable with it. So I wore this poncho with a longer cotton shirt underneath to keep the casual materials in sync. I also wore a crushed georgette hijab to complement the casual look. You always have to wear what you are comfortable with; it doesn’t always have to stick with the norms because at times you wont be comfortable with the norms.

After this photoshoot, I had an interview with Arte TV about Muslim Fashionistas and my blog. I will link the clip to my In The News section when it airs. (That is why I chose this touristy location- Long Island City, per their request). All of these pics were taken by: Ismail. You can catch him at: www.calligrafist.com
